4 Easy Tips to Get More Out of Conferences

Conferences are not a cheap investment in your professional development; and you certainly want to choose which ones you attend carefully. Before arriving, and while there, follow these four simple and easy ways to be sure you get the most out of the conference:

  1. Plan ahead.
    1. What sessions will you attend?
    2. Who is going that you can arrange to meet for coffee or a drink and “catch up?”
    3. What are your goals for the conference? What do you want to get out of it?
  2. Network when you are there – take advantage of morning breakfast, breaks and evening events to meet others and network.
  3. As you listen to the keynotes, talk with others, and attend sessions, write down ideas and other useful nuggets you obtain that you can use back at the office.
  4. When back at the office, follow up with those you connected with at the conference and develop a plan to put those ideas and useful nuggets to work for you. I usually create an action plan during the conference and finalize it on the plane ride home. This enables me to have a plan for moving forward with ideas for my business based on what I learned at the conference.

Enjoy your next conference and walk away with some great ideas to apply in your own business!
