Who Benefits From Project Management Training

Everyone of course!

During a recent lunch meeting with a client, we discussed project management training. In particular, who in the organization would benefit from participating in a project management training program? The question came up because he felt that everyone could benefit from learning how to manage projects, but his boss – one of the executives – felt that project management training should be reserved for project managers only – it is unnecessary for anyone else and a waste of training dollars. My client’s question – don’t I agree that everyone would benefit from learning how to manage projects?

And the answer: Yes – everyone benefits from project management training because everyone manages projects! Boy, “that was easy” (where is that Staples Easy button when you need it?).

Let’s face it – everyone in your business manages projects:

  • The executive assistant who needs to plan for a large executive retreat for the entire leadership team
  • The manufacturing line manager who needs to improve how the production line is flowing.
  • The marketing administrator who needs to get a brochure completed.
  • The salesperson that needs to respond to an RFP for a major account.
  • The technology manager who needs to upgrade the network and phone system.
  • The office manager planning a holiday party for the employees.

These are all projects. And these are just a handful of examples. None of these individuals are “project managers” nor is managing a project the only thing they do – they have a regular “day job.”

With these examples – applied to his particular company – he was able to convince the boss that everyone will benefit from a basic project management workshop.

Sound familiar? Could your employees benefit from such a workshop? Visit our Education page and consider our workshop: Project Management for Non-Project Managers.
