About me

David Shirley, PMP®, accepted an early retirement offer in 2001 from a major telecommunications company where he served in a variety of jobs including, Program/Project Management Director and Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. He worked on telecommunications traffic management and control, new fiber optic product introduction, and project managing large customer telecommunications with their network deployment, including being the project manager on the nation’s first fiber-to-to-the-home effort in Connecticut.

Since his retirement, David has joined the graduate faculty at New England College, where he developed and teaches Managing Projects. As part of the Masters of Management (MoM) in Healthcare Administration and the MoM in Project Management and Organizational Leadership, he has taught project management at hospitals and businesses as well as online and on campus. He is also an instructor for Southern New Hampshire University On-line teaching Corporate Social Responsibility at the graduate level. David developed, directed, and taught the project management certification program at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, MA, and is a senior instructor and consultant for Action For Results, and a senior instructor for ESI International, both leading project management education and training companies. In addition to an upcoming book on Green PM with Rich Maltzman, David is working on a book on Healthcare Project Management.

David holds a BA degree in Geology, from Windham College, Putney, VT, and an honors MBA degree from Monmouth University in Long Branch, New Jersey. He also holds Masters Certificates in Project Management from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ and American University in Washington, DC. While working as a licensed Health Officer and Environmental Specialist in an earlier career he attended graduate school at Cook College of Environmental Sciences in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
